the end of innocence
i used to think the troubles of the world belonged to newspapers.
wars, upheavals, collapsing worlds, people losing everything overnight. they felt like chapters in some unbearably long novel written about other people's lives. you read them, feel something for a moment, turn the page, and eventually forget.
i thought i would be allowed to forget too.
i was wrong.
life spares no one. it arrives at the door and takes away the luxury of innocence. then it places you at the entrance of roads you once swore you would never have to walk.
and yet here i am now, standing at the crossroads of one of those very roads. empty-handed. frightened. unsure of which direction still belongs to me.
