a catalogue of colors

i remember life in colors.

the blue of the sea in Nha Trang, from the time i was thrown off a jet ski. the green of the trees in the park, seen from the balcony of the restaurant i used to sit at in the city. the pale silver-grey of bars. the red of plastic chairs by the roadside, where conversations never seemed to end. the orange of lonely streetlights slipping through the room on nights when we stayed up talking. the brown of the beer bottles we shared. the fierce red sun on the Jean-Louis Fournier book you returned to me that year.

and my heart, of all things, is black.
